A Houston sewer contractor: how we work and what to ask any other one

How we work

We look before we quote. Every estimate starts with a camera down the line and, on slab homes, a hydrostatic test where it is warranted. You watch the screen with us and you keep the recording. The price is for the problem we can both see, not for the worst thing that might be down there.

We fix the section that failed. A separated joint 22 feet out is a one-day spot repair, not a replacement. A leaking hub under the hall bath is a short tunnel, not a whole-house re-plumb. When the footage says the whole line is done, we say that instead, and show you why.

We price in writing, line by line. Method, footage, depth, material, cleanout, permit, restoration, warranty. Good for 30 days. No deposit to hold the price.

We prove the work. A second camera pass on new pipe, a second hydrostatic test on under-slab work, and the recordings go to you.

Licensing in Texas, and what to ask for

Texas treats the sewer line from your fixtures out to the property line as plumbing, and the state requires plumbing to be done under a license issued by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners. Work like ours is performed under a Responsible Master Plumber, whose license number has to appear on the company's vehicles, advertising and paperwork, and is what the City of Houston checks before issuing the plumbing permit a replacement or under-slab job needs. We carry it. So should anyone you let dig in your yard or under your house — ask for the number and check it on the TSBPE website before signing. A company that says it does not need a permit for sewer work is telling you it cannot get one.

Beyond the license: general liability and workers' compensation certificates on request, before the crew arrives, and a Texas811 locate ticket before any excavation. Both are routine, and both are free to ask for.

The utility-line protection plans

Houston homeowners get mailings offering sewer line coverage for $6–$12 a month, often with a logo that looks like the water utility's. They are private warranty products, not city programs. Read the cap (often $4,000–$8,000, which does not cover an under-slab tunnel), the exclusions (pre-existing conditions, meaning anything a camera would already show), and the contractor clause (their contractor, their schedule). For a 1990s PVC lateral in Katy the math can work. For a 1960s cast iron slab home in Meyerland it rarely does, and the money is better spent on a camera inspection and a savings account.

What we don't do

We are not a foundation company, a general plumber for faucets and water heaters, or a landscaper. We work alongside all three and will tell you when the problem is theirs. We do not sell replacements from a camera pass through a dirty pipe, we do not tunnel a whole house for a single leaking run, and we do not take deposits on estimates.
